How it all happened.

Okay, first of all, we decided to get married in September 2009. We began planning for the following October. In fact, we bought the ring together at an estate jeweler the first weekend of October. Being slightly traditional, Oliver wanted to do a traditional proposal as well. He asked Meredith, "Do you envision your proposal as romantic or... fun?" Meredith said, "Whatever you want to do works for me." Oliver said, "Good, because I have something fun in mind." Meredith said, "As long as you don't stick the ring in food."

On November 18, Meredith and Oliver went to their usual Wednesday night kickball game. As usual, we lost. After the game we met up before heading to the bar to do team announcements. After a few normal announcements (So-and-so is having a party this weekend, playoffs start next week), one of our captains, Jessica, said, "Okay, not Oliver has an announcement." Oliver took Meredith's hand and dragged her into the middle of the circle. At this point, Meredith knew exactly what was coming! No one else did, until he dropped to one knee and took the ring out of his pocket. The proposal was immediately followed by a team group hug, and later, champagne at the bar, purchased by our teammates.
